An award-winning Aberystwyth University graduate has joined a major initiative to support Welsh food businesses.
Megi Williams, who graduated in Business and Management in 2015 and was awarded the Best of Wales prize for her work as a Welsh medium student, has joined Cywain as its Executive Officer.
A service delivered by independent economic development company Menter a Busnes, Cywain supports Welsh food businesses to grow by providing direct support, helping to improve business knowledge and skills and offering opportunities to collaborate with other businesses.
I’m delighted to have joined Cywain at such an important time, when so many businesses are looking to rebuild after COVID, and I’m really looking forward to building relationships and helping Welsh food and drinks businesses.
Megi Williams
Originally from Aberdaron on the Llŷn Peninsula, Megi was inspired to pursue a career in business while studying Business at A-Level in Coleg Meirion Dwyfor, Pwllheli.
At Aberystwyth University, Megi chose to study a large proportion of her undergraduate degree through the medium of Welsh.
At her graduation she was presented with the ‘Best of Wales’ prize, sponsored by holiday cottage agency Best of Wales, for displaying excellence through business studies in the Welsh language.
Megi added: “Studying Business and Management has given me an excellent foundation and understanding of business, and ideal for my role with Cywain. The support from staff and the Business School was excellent and the campus and study environment was great. I particularly liked the marketing elements of the course as it is a subject that is of great interest to me, and being able to continue my studies through the medium of Welsh and English was great as so much of what I do on a daily basis involves both languages”.
“I also really enjoyed the social aspect of studying and living in Aberystwyth. I was part of the Welsh community around UMCA, the Welsh Students’ Union at Aberystwyth, where we did all sorts of activities including ‘following’ the six nations games to Scotland and France which were always a lot of fun”.
Dr Wyn Morris, Senior Lecturer in Management at Aberystwyth Business School has congratulated Megi on her recent appointment.
Dr Morris said: “We are delighted that Megi has been appointed to Menter a Busnes. Megi was an excellent student and studied the majority of her course through the medium of Welsh. It is rewarding to see our students’ progress to such prominent roles, and I wish Megi all the best in her new post and look forward to working with her and supporting Cywain”.
